WAITSBURG-Martha Mason and Anne Haley have come together to share an assortment of artworks ranging from letterpress prints and monotypes to paintings and drawings. These works are on display now through April at Ten Ton Coffee on Main Street. "The theme of the show is how different we are," says Mason," we've been friends for years, but we're polar opposites." "Anne and I met in my design class. She's an amazing woman and a very bright lady who's talented in the fiber arts, knows design...
A column by Brianna Wray Have you experienced a loss of linguistic dexterity lately? They say we’re losing our language due to the dumbing down of conversation. Some of the blame can be pointed at text messages, particularly the ones fraught with an ever-expanding list of acronyms and emoticons, both pictorial and symbolic. What does [imagine a string of emoticons] mean, as a sentence? It’s hard to say. Making sense of emoji is especially troubling because they aren’t universal. The emoji sent...
WAITSBURG-Multifaceted entrepreneur Jessika Bannerman is having a busy week. Her book and gift shop, Ju's Traveling Pages, launched this past weekend and locals are stopping in to peruse the curated selections Ju's has to offer. The brick-and-mortar shop is a permanent installation of what was initially slated to be a traveling show. The concept of travel is inherent to the adventurous quality of reading, especially for young readers, so the name isn't too far of a stretch. Bannerman is still...

Matthews has spent the last 30 years creating a madhouse of irreverent sculptures that whirl and buzz as a social commentary referencing Dadaism, Surrealism and Absurdism. Astounding and...
WALLA WALLA – New Orleans is a jazzy blur of music, rich color and French cuisine like no other. If it had a recipe it would be one-part "Sweet Georgia Brown," one part jambalaya, and two parts "When the Saints Go Marching In." Walla Walla Choral Society Artistic Director and lively pianist Gary Hemenway have the recipe just right, bringing New Orleans to the Gesa Powerhouse Theatre with a live band accompanying roughly sixty vocalists taking on a variety of classic songs. From the audience, t...
WALLA WALLA-Through their show, Sheets of Paper, resident artists at Studio Two Zero Two and Morell Family Wines are inviting the community to overcome the winter doldrums and experience new works. The show, on display through the month of February, unites three artists: Augusta Sparks Farnum, Penny Michel and Squire Broel, who typically work in different mediums to a relatable challenge: conquering a massive empty space. For a writer, a standard eight and half by eleven-inch sheet would be...
WAITSBURG-Most aspiring musicians are eager to run down to the music shop, buy a guitar and play songs for screaming fans, and start selling out concert halls.
