[Editor's Note: Besides teaching English at Touchet High School and being a contributing writer for The Times, Shauna Fletcher is an accomplished actress and stars this summer in WWCC Foundation's production of "The Music Man" at the Fort Walla Walla Amphithe- ater.] "Y ou're not listen- ing, Marian!" Harold Hill whispers to me, "Look!" Only we both know I'm listening intently. Because in actuality, I'm waiting for my cue to move to center stage; and Harold Hill is really actor and director...
PRESCOTT - Those in search of a way to cool off are bound to find it in Prescott's very own oasis. The Prescott swimming pool will open for the 2013 season on Monday, June 17th. A great source of pride for the community, the pool was established in 1958 by the school district. During that time, the school offered swimming lessons as a part of its physical education program, and opened it up to the public for the summers. When there were legislative changes to state funding formulas for school di...
DAYTON - The Day- ton school district will say farewell to three very spe- cial ladies at the close of this school year. Elemen- tary school principal Katie Leid, first grade teacher Julie Howard, and school secre- tary Dallas Dickinson are all set to retire. Combined, these women have well over fifty years experience in education, and for them the decision to begin a new chapter in their lives is bittersweet. Leid, who was born in Walla Walla and raised in Waitsburg, has served as principal...
Despite a rather hectic week of school, on Saturday I rose up early with a mission in mind. I carefully whipped on my mascara, chugged some coffee while I picked up an en- thusiastic fiancé, and together we drove to Waitsburg, where I witnessed my very first Cel- ebration Days parade. It was well worth the few hours of missed sleep. In my twenty-six years, I have enjoyed many other parades. My mom used to take me and my brother to the Christmas parade in Walla Walla, and we would gladly shiver in the cold to see Santa. We almost always...

WALLA WALLA - Like most graduating seniors, Cougar Henderson is look- ing forward to starting a new chapter in his life. But not just yet...Henderson's last weeks of high school will certainly stand out from the rest. He is about to kick off his eighth theatrical production in the past calendar year, in Wa-Hi's production of "Bye Bye Birdie." A self-proclaimed "sixthgeneration Waitsburgite," Henderson was bitten by the theater bug early. He became determined to be on stage after seeing "The...

Cox will replace retiring Superintendent Bill Jordan, who has served in that po- sition for three years. He submitted his resignation in January and has...
