I , like you, am sickened by yesterday’s events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. I want everyone to know that the victims, their families and all who are affected by such a horrific event are in the conversations, thoughts and prayers of our Sheriff’s Of- fice and myself. Events such as yesterday bring home the realities of this world and strengthen our resolve as a law enforcement agency to protect and serve our own wonderful community here in Walla Walla County. Bill Thompson was a good friend. I share that distinction with scores of folks in this community and extending the population to the Palouse. "BillyT" was his vanity plate, but his formal moniker was "Buffalo Bill," because it was largely through his efforts that the annual Lions Buffalo Feed was instituted. He was really tickled when the front page of The Times had the replica of a buffalo nickel with the motto "E Pluribus Thompson." I share some Waitsburg history with him as we both came into...
Many of us have enjoyed the Lewis and Clark Trail State Park off Highway 12 between Dayton and Waitsburg. The tops of the trees are still bent as a result of that early...

Therefore I feel there needs to be a written response from my office. In years past the Sheriff's Office and Emergency Medical Services personnel have spent...
During the 1950s, a group of us in Waitsburg started a group called the Rock Club. Some of the members had been "rock hounds," and we decided to form a group to share our adventures. We split up the party into small family groups, sometimes going to separate areas where we could explore for rocks or arrowheads and other artifacts, such as bowls and pestles or scrapers, for example. We went to Whitman County one of the first times searching for arrowheads. We had permission from the farmer to search as it was in trust with the bank. This is...
