"The Poultry Plungers" really appreciate all the pledges we received. Everyone was very supportive. We had a great time at the Plunge sporting our chic outfits, which were a big hit! We'll be back next year, and we hope to recruit more team members and get more creative with our costumes. Look for us late this year when we'll come "cheeping for your change!" Words cannot express the love and concern we felt during Owen's recent illness and surgery. We appreciate our friends, church family, Owen's teachers and classmates, and this community so...

DAYTON - The Bulldogs were cautiously optimistic Friday evening after defeating both Walla Walla Valley Academy teams on Thursday - including a much-needed victory for the Lady Bulldogs - but their high spirits weren't enough to earn them a win against the tough Asotin Panthers. Though Dayton's young men and women went head to head on their own court against Asotin, the Panthers were victorious on both counts, at 50-64 against the men and 51-63 against the ladies. In the men's match, the...
ASOTIN - It wasn't until the final buzzer of the men's game sounded that WP players and a big contingent of fans knew for sure the Cardinals had passed one of the biggest tests of the season: beating the Panthers in their own den. It was neither easy nor particularly pretty, especially in the end. The physical game reflected both rivals' appetite to win with composure and smart ball handling, giving the Cardinals just enough of an advantage. With 45 seconds to go and both teams fouling like it...

A rriving in Park City, Utah, I was met by staff of the Washington School Inn Bed and Breakfast who drove me to the B & B where I was booked to stay for the week of the Sundance Film Festival. I'd been hired to cook by a private group of guests who booked the entire B & B for the week long Festival. This was my third year working the annual winter event, and it promised to be interesting with a house full of celebrities, a well-known producer/director and me, the chef. Among the exclusive food and beverage requests were the cigar, wine and bran...

WAITSBURG - Diane Dill and her son Alex didn't lose everything Saturday. Their horses were outside when the fire in the barn on Bolles Road started just before noon, and two of their four goats were saved by Brian Seagraves, who runs the cabinet shop next door. Still, Alex Dill lost Raffle, the pregnant goat he has owned since he joined 4-H in fourth grade, and Frosty, another pregnant goat he got a year and a half ago. I n response to the letter to the editor submitted last week by Darver Tackle owner Verna Foley, I would like to point out a few important facts that she does not appear to fully understand. I am aware the city council approved an RV park built on McNeil Street, but the RV dump on this property is what is in question. It was not approved by city council, and we have found no documentation in the city minutes that it was ever discussed. The dump was put in after the RV Park was built and, to my knowledge, was not inspected by any approved...
The first time we drove into Waitsburg, I knew there was something missing on Main Street. Someone in Walla Walla had recommended the Whoop ' Em Up Hollow Café for dinner, and once downtown, we discovered Waitsburg also had a charming hardware store, a great bar, a friendly pub and even a homegrown brewery. But we could find no place to get espresso. Other than John and Marilyn Stellwagen's table at the Waitsburg Hardware and Mercantile, there was no place to get together during the day, there...

Soon, our offerings will include reproduction services and retail office supplies in our renovated historic office on Main Street in Waitsburg. As a newspaper team, we truly enjoy putting together the Times every week because we get lots of encouragement from you, our readers. This is one of the reasons why it saddens us to bring you some bad news with regards to the long-term future of th...
When longtime Waitsburg resident Bert Aylward and his wife Linda were getting ready for his family reunion at Fort Walla Walla last summer, they rummaged through a trunk full of old photographs. The couple had stored the keepsakes after his parents passed away but had not gone through all the old pictures yet. Every one of the 88 Witt descendants coming from across the country to Walla Walla was supposed to present or recite an item of family history. As Aylward went through the photos, it...
DAYTON - Some major parts of Dayton's wastewater treatment system have been around since 1938, but Public Works Director Jim Costello believes they'd still work fine "if the state hadn't changed the rules on us," he said. More than 40 concerned citizens attended a special meeting last Monday night to hear from the horse's mouth why Dayton is faced with costly changes to its wastewater treatment plant by 2018. "The short answer is, the city's wastewater treatment plant is discharging too many nutrients and other pollutants into the (Touchet)...
WAITSBURG - The Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office is requesting local residents' assistance in locating Adam Hermanns, whom they call "a potential witness" to last Tuesday night's fire at his parents' residence on West 2nd Street in Waitsburg. "We are attempting to locate Adam as a potential witness related to the fire," Undersheriff Eddie Freyer said in an interview Wednesday. Freyer, who came to the scene of the fire after midnight last Tuesday and again on Wednesday morning, said his office...
