CAMP WOOTEN - The snow is gone, and eastern Washington's closest designated Environmental Learning Center in the state parks system is open for business for the 2013 season. The two peacocks, white and blue, are busy displaying for their hens daily, delighting visitors to the Pioneer Park Aviary. One of our breeding pairs of NeNe, or Hawaiian, hatched goslings March 12, and they can be seen exploring their world in the lower pond enclosure with their parents. WAITSBURG - Organizers of the Tour of Walla Walla bicycle race report that more than 500 riders will compete this year. PASCO - Three WP athletes qualified for the Pasco Invite on Saturday and each did well in competition, setting new personal records and earning a place on the podium. DAYTON - The Port of Columbia Commissioners opened bids for construction of Building 1 at Blue Mountain Station on April 5. The Citizenship Class from the middle school was overwhelmed by the support the community gave them in helping to raise funds for the Brooks family to reestablish their home following a fire.
