WAITSBURG – Three candidates have filed in Walla Walla County to replace outgoing Sheriff, John Turner, who is not running for reelection. The Sheriff position was the only county-wide race to receive more than one candidate filing during the week-long filing period that ended Friday. Arthur (Art) M. Sunderland, 97, passed away in Vancouver, WA on May 13, 2018. He was born in Cheney, Washington December 17, 1920, to Samuel and Beulah Sunderland. PRESCOTT – Prescott Parks and Recreation has announced that the Prescott swimming pool will open for the season on Saturday, weather permitting. The pool will operate from noon to 7 p.m. through Monday. Gate fees this year will be $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and youth aged 6 – 17. Children five and under are free with a paying adult. DAYTON – During their regular meeting last week, the Port of Columbia commissioners adopted a greenhouse emissions policy, as requested by the Washington State Department of Transportation. LEWISTON – Former Waitsburg High athlete Owen Lanning, now a junior at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, has qualified for the NAIA National outdoor track and field finals this week in the decathlon event. The meet will begin Thursday in Gulf Shores, Ala. The decathlon includes ten separate events held over two days – Thursday and Friday.
