In spite of the big, $1 per bushel spike in Chicago wheat prices May 15 through 21, the trend for wheat remains in a broad downward slope. It is very tough for wheat to advance directly into the teeth of harvest, even with the weather stories about dryness in Russia and frost on tender young North Dakota hard red spring wheat. We do not yet have the combination of factors that could allow wheat to rise beyond the upper edge of the 15-monthold downward price channel. The market played one of its best positive price cards in the mid-May jump, as...

  • A Time And Place For Everything

    May 31, 2012

Last week, the Times carried a news story about new Councilman KC Kuykendall asking the Waitsburg City Council to consider adding a prayer or invocation to the opening of its meetings. Wisely, the council postponed a decision on the question because several council members wanted to hear from members of the community on the subject. From the research we've done, it appears the addition of prayer would be legal. Government entities can start their meeting with a non-denominational prayer or invocation that acknowledges God but does not reflect a...

Johnson said he has concerns about fall enrollment and the budget that will accompany it. The current full-time equivalent enrollment... Full story
