  • Rainbow Girls A Decades-Long Tradition

    Aug 2, 2012

WAITSBURG - If Karen Mohney's math is correct, the Rainbow Girls group has been active in Waitsburg for more than 75 years and about 680 to 700 Waitsburg girls have been part of the organization. Mohney, the current mother advisor of the Waitsburg group, is no stranger to Rainbow herself. And there are many other volunteers and board members who have also spent many years of their lives involved in the organization. The women, older and younger, say they stay with Rainbow because of the...

WP Head Football Coach Jeff Bartlow Believes Last Season's Freshmen Will Step Up On The Field This Fall W AITSBURG -- The 2011 run in football last fall was a great run and one the communities of Waitsburg and Prescott, as well as Jubilee Christian, will remember for a long time to come. In fact, the last three years are really remarkable going, 35-3, over that span. Numerous school records, both team and individual, were broken. And, when you graduate 12 seniors in 2010 and then eight more in 2011 and win that many games (26-1 over those two...

    Jillian Beaudry, The Times|Aug 2, 2012

WAITSBURG - Sue DeRuwe and Stephanie Wooderchak will share athletic director duties in 2012-13. To cut costs, the Waitsburg Prescott athletic combine has switched from the single athletic director method to having two staff members share the duties part-time. The change was made at the end of the 2011-12 school year and was the result of the tight budgets both districts face, school officials say. "It's another way we can cut some costs," said Waitsburg Superintendent Dr. Carol Clarke. "It...

    Jillian Beaudry, The Times|Aug 2, 2012

WAITSBURG - Waitsburg residents will see their sewer bill jump 90 cents, effective on their July bill. The city council approved the increase at the last meeting on July 18. City Administrator Randy Hinchliffe said the extra 90 cents added to the bills each month will pay for a loan for a sewer lining project. The project, to begin in about one month, will improve the city's terra cotta piping laid mostly in the 1930s. Hinchliffe said the current piping is cracking because of root damage and age. The damage is causing sewer backups and ot...

The air conditioning keeps the house deliciously cool, welcoming field hands who dine on this chef's six-day-a-week menu. Tradition is everything to Skip and Julia Mead. The wheat market continues its wild ride, with the price of a Chicago wheat bushel declining 95 cents from its high at $9.47 in two trading sessions July 23 and 24, followed by 66 cents up and 29 cents down into Tuesday morning (and more volatility ahead). The heat and drought in the Midwestern U.S. has reduced the corn crop by something like one-third. The weather has moderated a bit, but the decline in crop condi- tion ratings continues.
