STATE FUNDING DROPS DAYTON - Columbia County and the city of Dayton will not receive as much money through the state's local government financial assistance program as initially indicated. The state is not providing as much money as in past years to the program and the figures are calculated based on how much real estate tax is collected in the county, said Columbia County Treasurer Audrey McLean. Last week, we carried a story about the KUOW series on the "Cascade Curtain," the idea that the state and its residents are somehow culturally divided by the mountain range that separates them geographically. WALLA WALLA - Dayton resident Melvin Bohleen, 73, is scheduled to appear in Walla Walla Superior Court Sept. 12 for charges relating to a vehicle-and-bicycle collision that killed a Seattle woman on May 21 on Middle Waitsburg Road.
