WALLAWALLA - The Dayton Bulldogs soccer team played a tough match against the Walla Walla Valley Academy Knights on Wednesday, Sept. 19, ultimately falling 5-1 to the Knights. The Bulldogs had a game scheduled against Riverside on Saturday, Sept. 22, but the game was canceled due to the smoke in the air. Head coach DJ Frame said the Knights were aggressive and spread the ball around to a number of players so there was no one person for the Bulldogs to cover to take over the game. "Once we ad...
COLLEGE PLACE - The WP volleyball team traveled to College Place for its only match of the week and fell to the Walla Walla Valley Academy Knights in four sets. The teams were evenly matched in the first set, but the Cardinals couldn't close the deal losing, 23-25. WP squared the match with a convincing, 25-18, victory in set two. But the Cardinals couldn't sustain the momentum. The Knights reeled off victories in the next two sets by the same scores 18 and 25, 18 and 25. "Overall our play has improved," WP coach Angie Potts said lauding h...
IRRIGON, ORE. - The WP Tigers showed up ready to beat Irrigon, Ore., last Saturday taking the home team down, 6-2. "We're playing better," assistant WP coach Jay Potts said. The Tigers are now, 3-1, in wins and losses this season. Potts said Irrigon has a good team and this was the Tigers' first time playing the Knights. They are scheduled to play again in Prescott on Oct. 20. The reason the Tigers had the edge last Saturday was because of two returners who are now eligible were finally able to play with the team, Potts said. Carlos Sandoval...
The Dayton Bulldogs fell to the DeSales Irish, 34-6, in a heartbreaking loss after a tough fight on last Friday night. During the Bulldogs’ first possession, the team hit the field fighting, but couldn’t move the ball down the field. They were able to keep the possession alive and hold off the Irish by recovering their own fourth down kick, but the Irish picked up the ball on fumble. The Irish wasted no time taking the ball down the field for a touchdown at 9:25, bringing the score to 7-0 aft...
OAKESDALE - Waitsburg- Prescott couldn't overcome an uncharacteristic five-turnover night and lost to Tekoa-Oakesdale Rosalia in the opening game of league football play, 32-22. It was the Cardinals' first loss since 2010. That's not to say last week's no. 1 team in the Class 2B ranks didn't try. The Cardinals trailed, 20-0, at halftime thanks to two particularly costly fumbles. The first occurred in the first quarter on the second play of WP's second possession. Taking the snap at his own 1...

The Lady Bulldogs took on the Asotin Panthers last Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Dayton and played through the whole five-game match before ultimately falling. In game one, the Bulldogs were communicating and garnered enough momentum to hold the Panthers for a final score of 25-18, Dayton. Our Neighboring Countryside: Fall came over the week- end, the sound of leaves being raked was deafening. Maybe you've noticed recently the neighborhood turkey clutch is nowhere in sight. I was told by one old timer that after the turkeys see humans wearing camouflage they high tail it to the Whetstone to hide in their caves. With this thought I get a mental picture: a clutch of modern-day raptors running like the Road Runner with Wylie Coyote wearing camouflage running close behind, "meep-meep!"
