    Tracy Thompson, The Times|Oct 31, 2019

Way back in the last century, my father, a teacher at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA, let me know that I could go to any college I wanted to: as long as it was located in Washington state and was a public institution. With an older brother and sister already attending the University of Washington, we simply didn't have the funds for any other type of choice. I remember briefly considering The Evergreen State College, but having visited my siblings in Seattle, I was pretty excited...

  • Mountain Apple Cobbler

    Teeny McMunn, The Times|Oct 31, 2019

I am totally going to try this. We have a church potluck coming up next Sunday, and it's a breakfast potluck, I'm declaring this to be also ok for a morning treat. I was going to put in the Pumpkin Yeast Bread that I made, but I wasn't overly impressed with it. The recipe calls for a cup and half of pumpkin but the pumpkin taste doesn't really come throughw. The bread was a bit heavy, maybe because I used bread flour and wasn't able to get in the required six and half cups of flour. Anyway, all that to say, I won't make it again. This recipe...

  • Nine strategies teens use to reduce screen time

    The Times|Oct 31, 2019

    1. Use tech to manage tech. There is actually an app called SelfControl that is helpful for staying on task as it completely blocks any site teens want (i.e. Facebook) for an allotted time they set. This is quite helpful for reducing temptation. 2. Unfollow things that are a time sink for them. They’ll stop following “satisfying videos” sites also known as “oddly satisfying videos.” Soap cutting, baking, playing with slime, eggshell crushing, paint mixing, etc. fall into this category....
