    TACOMA -- The WP Cardinals claimed the 2B 11-man football state title with a 33-7 victory over the Morton/White Pass Timberwolves last Saturday night in the Tacoma Dome. The undefeated Cardinals became the second WP team to win a state title this fall after the Tigers won it for soccer. Only two other teams in the state - Odessa and Davenport - accomplished this before in football and volleyball, according to sports historians.     WAITSBURG - A community staple that has played host to the daily "coffee club" for years is up for sale. The White Stallion Restaurant on Preston Avenue was put on the market by the Blanc Family on Nov. 24, said Tarah McCaw with Williams Team Homes. The restaurant is listed for $139,000 and includes a little more than an acre of land, the building and all of the furnishings.     Walter E. Sinkbeil was born on February 5, 1912 in Zeeland, North Dakota, to Adolf and Pauline Sinkbeil, the eldest of 12 children. Walt passed away peacefully at age 99 at the Booker Rest Home in Dayton, Wash., on Sunday, November 27. He graduated from Eureka, South Dakota High School in 1930. In his early years he worked for the lumber yard in Zeeland, which helped foster his lifelong love of woodworking.     DAYTON - Firefighter John Watts, with Columbia County Fire District 2 and the City of Waitsburg's department, is living a dream. "Deep down, everybody wants to be a firefighter," Watts said.     DAYTON - The City of Dayton has received a grant to chip seal a few city streets to maintain road conditions for years to come. Trina Cole, the city's clerk/ treasurer, said the city will receive $69,621 to chip seal five different streets. The city will also contribute $3,644 for the project slated to take place in 2012.     WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg school board will consider at its next meeting how much to ask the local taxpayers for to keep the district up and running in 2013 and 2014. The district has a current maintenance and operations levy that fund basic operations, programming and even personnel at the district. The district brought in $410,000 in 2011 by taxing residents $3.41 per $1,000 of assessed property value. In 2012, the district will receive $422,000 and cost taxpayers $3.51.
