DAYTON – The Dayton Eagles Aerie #2618 will be open to the public on Sat., Jan. 26 from 2-8 p.m. for a chili feed fundraiser to raise money for the Cush family that lost their home and belongings in a fire earlier this month. The January 2019 city newsletter explains that fats, oils and grease poured down the drain can catch on roots and imperfections in the lines to block the flow of sewage. WALLA WALLA—Walla Walla County Commissioner Jim Duncan died suddenly on Dec. 27. He was 49. Reports say cause of death was cardiac arrest. Duncan was first elected to the board of commissioners in November 2014. He ran unopposed for re-election last November and was due to be sworn in for his second term this week. Prior to his 2014 election, Duncan had served as emergency management director for Walla County for three years. WALLA WALLA—A Waitsburg resident, Leslie Moreno, 25, was arrested Friday on suspicion of second degree murder. The arrest came after the stabbing death of Marcus Allessio, also 25, who lived at the same Waitsburg address as Moreno. The Walla Walla Co. Sheriff’s Office reported that a 911 caller reported she was transporting Allessio from Waitsburg to Walla Walla. Her vehicle was met by emergency personnel just east of Walla Walla. OLYMPIA--The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is offering two free state park visit days in January. The first free day is Jan. 1 and the second free day is Jan. 21. The free days do not apply to Sno-Parks.
