    WAITSBURG – Gabriel Hofer, of Waitsburg, pleaded not guilty to first-degree assault in a Walla Walla County Superior Court arraignment hearing on Dec. 22. Hofer is accused of hitting Richard W. Perez, whom he discovered unconscious, next to his sister who was dead from a drug overdose. Hofer is not in custody.     DAYTON – The Dayton City Council has changed its meeting schedule. They will now have regular meetings once per month, on the second Monday of each month in council chambers at city hall.     DAYTON – Columbia County Commissioners agreed unanimously on Dec. 31 to purchase public records software GovQA to assist Leanne Peters, clerk of the board, with tracking and fulfilling public records requests. The software costs $1,500 up front and $250 per month after that, she said.
