The Friends of the Weller Public Library organized their 2022 Bookmark Contest. Kids in four age groups were invited to submit their bookmark designs. The groups were K-2nd grade, 3rd -5th grade, 6th-8th grade, and 9th -12th grade. The winners from each group will receive a prize and their designs printed for distribution at the library. WAITSBURG- On June 30, 2022, the Exchange Club of Walla Walla donated and installed a 20-document acrylic Freedom Shrine to the Weller Public Library. Most known for its child-abuse prevention program, the National Exchange Club also works to promote pride in our country. WAITSBURG—On May 30, Waitsburg-youngster Jace Grende was life-flighted to Harborview Medical Center with a spontaneous brain bleed. There, it was discovered that Jace had a brain tumor, and a successful surgery removed most of the glioma that was discovered. A secondary tumor was found on his thalamus and is inoperable. It was June of 2021 when the Friends of the Library first heard about the possible surplus sale of the Weller Library building. In July the community came together to request that the library remain in its present location on Main Street. The main issue was that the building was not ADA compliant.
