Ten Years Ago April 21, 2005 Academy Street is now open to only one-way traffic as part of a 90-day trial period adopted by the City of Waitsburg at the request of the Waitsburg School District. Traffic flows from west to east, Main Street to Coppei Avenue, will now be observed to see if the desired effect is achieved. Ten Years Ago April 14, 2005 Waitsburg Cardinals Natasha Montgomery and Matt Baker captured firsts in the high jump and 110 High hurdles, respectively, at the Milton-Freewater Carnival of Speed last Friday, April 8. Montgomery bested competitors from 20 schools from Washington, Idaho and Oregon, and Baker finished first ahead of hurdlers from 22 high schools. Ten Years Ago February 17, 2005 The home of Robert and Terrie Abernathy was destroyed by fire which frustrated local firefighters at every turn last weekend. Crews battled the stubborn fire from about 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. when they shifted to defensive positions due to a number of factors including the presence of propane tanks. Ten Years Ago February 3, 2005 A garage with a bit of history for Bolles Junction-area folks was lost to fire last Friday. The structure was formerly the Bolles Junction School District’s one-room schoolhouse. Firefighters from Joint Fire District Nos. 2 and 7, and a pumper from the City of Waitsburg, responded to the 7:31 a.m. call to 13366 E. SR 124.
