Tigers Cap Great Season

The WP Tigers' rollercoaster playoff ride ended with a loser-out loss against number one DeSales, but the loss did nothing to bring down the high note on which the team ended a very successful season.

"We came away from this season exceeding our goals and creating new goals for next year," head coach Angie Potts said. "This group of girls was an absolute dream to coach."

The Tigers were nervous during their first state appearance, dropping flyballs and showing the jitters until a Sarah Wilson home run over the left field fence lifted the team's spirit.

It wasn't enough. Despite the rally, the Tigers went down 17-7 against Colfax.

The second game against Oroville went much better. The team was more settled and focused despite the fact they were facing a loser-out matchup.

"We hit well, played solid defense, ran aggressively and Jennifer (Nichols) kept them off balance with her pitching," Potts said.

The result was a 11-1 win with Hailey Goenen, Alyssa Hafen, Megan Withers, Katy Hofer, Sarah Wilson, Taylor Moon and Rachelle Oseth all scoring hits.

With a solid win behind them, the Tigers went into their loser-out game against DeSales and came up against a team that was equally prepared. DeSales, undefeated during the season, simply outscored WP 13-4.

"We hit really well but couldn't get runs across when we needed them," Potts said. "Overall in the game, we left 10 runners on base as opposed to the two runners DeSales left on base."

Without any seniors on the team, the Tigers should be in a strong position next year, particularly now that they have the playoff experience.

"We are looking forward to the next season with our returning girls as well as incoming freshmen," Potts said.
