Bennie Warren Janes

Long-time Dayton resi­dent Bennie Warren Janes, 81, of 208 E. Tremont St., died suddenly and peacefully at his home on August 11, 2010. A Remembrance Gath­ering

in Bennie's honor will be held on Thursday, August 19, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Dayton Senior Center. Friends are invited to stop by to greet the family and share a memory or story of Bennie. A private family service will be held at a later date on the Lochsa River in Idaho. Bennie was born January 28, 1929, in Pickens County, Alabama, to James Morris Janes and Sarah Perrigin Janes. He graduated from high school in Reform, Ala­bama, with the class of 1947. He married Ruth Hutchens of Dayton on October 2, 1950, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Bennie worked at the Dayton City Cleaners before he was drafted into the Army. After his service, they made their home in Walla Walla where he worked for Key City Cleaners, later becom­ing a partner in the Panto­rium Cleaners in Pomeroy. In 1956, he moved with his family to Anna, Illinois, where for 20 years they owned and operated the Twin City Cleaners. In 1976, Bennie, Ruth and son Ron returned to Dayton. Bennie and Ruth owned the City Cleaners and Laundromat, which they operated until retiring in 1994. Bennie loved fly fishing, especially on the Lochsa River in Idaho, and he was a charter member of the Federation of Fly Fisher­men. In late July he was still climbing into the Touchet River in Dayton to fish with the kids and grandkids. He wrote many letters of testi­mony to the state and federal forest services in efforts to preserve old growth forests and trout streams in Idaho and nearby states. He liked to work in his garden, play pool with friends at the Senior Center, watch any kind of football game and constantly monitored the weather on the Weather Channel. After retirement, trips with Ruth to see the kids in the Chicago area, northern Indiana and California, as well as visits to relatives and friends in Mississippi, Alabama, and Minnesota, were yearly high­lights for Bennie. He loved seeing the shows in Branson and Nashville and delighted in the National Old Time Fiddlers' Contest in Weiser, Idaho. He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 59 years, and 3 daughters; Patsy (Dan) Linert of Valparaiso, Indiana; Susan (Gary) Balling of Oak Park, IL, Linda Miller of Round Lake Beach, IL; 1 son, Ron Janes and fiancé Kerry Ma­cumber

of Lincoln, CA; grandsons Brian and Michael Linert, and granddaughter, Mackenna Janes. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Boone of Columbus, Missis­sippi,
