WP Cardinals Football Team Goes 4-0

PASCO - After being behind at halftime, the WP Cardinals rallied for a 24-point second half and beat Chiawana 30-7 last night to go 4-0 for the season so far.

quot;We came out in the second half played with a lot of heart,quot; head coach Jeff Bartlow said after the game. quot;We picked it up and took care of business.quot;

The Cardinals played the much-bigger high school's JV team, which was endowed with plenty of talented players and put WP to the test, particularly in the first half.

WP was the first to score with Zach Bartlow running for a touchdown at the start of the second quarter. Chiawana scored late in the first half and kicked the field goal, which the Cardinals had missed earlier to put the Pasco team ahead 7-6.

Bartlow brought back running back Kris Cady who had been benched for the first half for a disciplinary matter and with help from a fired-up sideline, WP took control of the game.

Following several carries by Cady for the Cardinals' first possession of the third quarter, Bartlow ran it into the end zone for a quarterback keep and the team ran it in again for the 2 extra points to make it 14-7.

On their second possession, the Cardinals had another strong drive with Cady running for 38 yards and Justin Armstrong finishing things off with a touchdown run to put WP even further ahead 20-7.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Cardinals recovered a fumble and on their next possession, Bartlow threw a pass to #32 for the touchdown. With the extra point, WP led 27-7, not allowing Chiawana to come within field goal range of the end zone or causing turnovers to win the ball back.

One possession later, the Cardinals again gave the ball to Cady, who ran it 46 yards to the 2 yard line where Chiawana held WP to a field goal before the end of the fourth quarter.

WP plays DeSales on Thursday.
