Richard (Dick) Chissus

Waitsburg resident Richard Thomas "Dick" Chissus, 77, died September 14, 2010, at Eagle Springs Specialty Care Community in College Place, Washington. At his request there will be no service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington 99362.

Dick was born May 15, 1933, in Wapato, Wash., to Sin­claire and Elizabeth Pearl Bedow Chissus. He worked in construction as a brick layer. He loved playing and watching baseball, winning several national championships as a pitcher in fast-pitch softball. Dick is in the Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame.

His interests also included hunting and fishing. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a mem­ber of the American Legion. Dick is survived by his daughter, Renee Robbins-Chiles of Vancouver, Wash .; his son, Steven Chissus of Waitsburg, Wash .; three sisters: Shirley Fredrickson, Janet Peterson, and Jean O'Conner; a brother, Bud Chissus; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers: Don Chissus, Paul Chissus, Ed Chissus, Dave Chissus, and Al Chissus; and one sister, Beth Potoshnik.
