Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

WP X-Country Athletes Shine

CLARKSTON - Waitsburg Prescott cross country runners attended the Seaport Invite on Saturday.

This was a large meet with lots of schools participating including three schools from the local Blue Mountain District:

Dayton, Asotin and St. John-Endicott.

The course was at Beachview Park, adjacent to Clarkston High School

"It was another terrific day," reported coach Joanna Lanning. starting with our two middle school boys participating in the 2,000-meter race. Out of 90 middle school boys, Trent Hafen placed third with a time of 8:23 and 7th grader Trey Potts in his first-ever race was 26th with a time of 9:33. "Both boys raced hard, and I was very proud of them," Lanning said. WP's three freshman boys did not participate due to illness and injury, so the runners did not field a team. "But their three older teammates shined," Lanning said, especially sophomore Seth Deal, who finished second

in the varsity boys 3-mile race with a time of 16:29 out of 90 racers. He was less then a minute behind the winner, Adam Storey of Moscow, who had a time of 15:54. "Seth ran very, very hard and very smart," Lanning said. "He established his position

pretty early in the race and never wavered. He looked great from start to finish." Last September Deal's time was 18:28 at this same meet. Seniors Nick Carpenter and Matthew Montgomery were 29th and 36th respectively

with times of 18:21 and 18:35.

On the girls side, senior Isabel Benito did well placing 14th out of 57 participatants with a time of 21:46.
