1Willow, a boutique and art gallery on Rose Street in Walla Walla, is having an ArtWALK from 5-8 p.m. with demonstrations and art talks by M'Lisse Moerk and Margie McDonald beginning
at 6 p.m. This will be followed by an open studio on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. where Jeanne McMenemy will share her studio with John Saling and will be open to the public. Walla Faces Tasting Salon, on Main Street in Walla Walla, gears up for an event-filled month beginning with an evening of Kevin Selby music from 6-8 p.m. Selby is known for his original vocals and jazz fusion. On Oct. 8 Blue Mountain Spanish Sound will play from 6-8 p.m. featuring two acoustic guitars with a heavy American/ Latin beat and original music. On Oct. 9, from 2-5 p.m., singer, songwriter Gary Kemp will play mellow folk (with a hint of country) as well as cover music. Oct. 15 the salon welcomes local
singer, songwriter Ryan Calvert from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 22 from 6-8 p.m. is singer, songwriter and keyboardist Rick Phillips formerly of Apartment 101. And Oct. 29 from 6-8 p.m. is new jazz group the Bluestone, blues and grooves designed for dancing or listening. At all events, wine (glass or bottle) and tasty tidbits are available for purchase. No cover charge.
2Dayton On Tour, an art walk with artists reception, historic home and artist studio tours and the Great Blue Sky Kite Contest, takes place in historic Dayton all day.
Talented Columbia County artists will be featured on Main Street in Dayton at the Wenaha Gallery, Gallery at the Weinhard, and local studios as well as the Dayton Historic Depot and Delany Building during this event. The Art Walk will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the artists reception at the Historic Depot from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Staff will unveil the Stationmaster Sculpture that evening.
The artists reception will be an opportunity to meet the participating artists and relax with music, hors d'oeuvres, and wine tasting; there will be no fee for the reception.
The historic home and building tours take place from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $10. Maps and tickets available at the depot beginning at 1 p.m. Docents will be on hand at each building to answer questions and provide information. 3Dessert Fundraiser for Dayton Young Life from 3-5 p.m. at the Seneca Community
Center in Dayton. Admission is free but donations are welcome. Pie auction will help raise money for the 2010-2011 program year. Young Life is a youth ministry program for local children. 4 The Columbia County Coalition for Youth and Families will be presenting a public presentation to raise awareness of the problems of domestic violence. Entitled "What's Love Got to Do With It?" - the evening will focus on the effects of domestic violence on a family and will also cover ways that individuals can advocate for victims and how to help someone they suspect is in an abusive relationship. The correlation between domestic violence and substance abuse will also be discussed. In addition, parents and teens can get tips on safe dating practices and how to recognize signs of an unhealthy relationship. The event will be held at the Liberty Theater in Dayton and will start at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public. For further information, call 509-382-1511.

Local American Association of University Women Candidates Forum at Dayton's
Liberty Theater from 7-9:30 p.m. All candidates running for office in the November 2 general election have been invited, including those running for contested Columbia County offices: Rea Culwell and Randy Lewis for prosecuting attorney,
Walt Hessler and Mark Franklin for sheriff, and Charles Reeves and Charles Amerein, for commissioner, district 3. All candidates attending the forum will give statements and answer questions from the audience. Voters will be able to visit one-on-one with candidates at the conclusion of the forum
while refreshments are served in the theater lobby. Ballots are set to be mailed Oct. 15.
7 The next Call to Prayer, sponsored by Touchet Valley pastors, takes place at 7 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 601 S. 3rd Street in Dayton. The guest speaker will be Pastor Joy Punnoose, President of the Native Missionary Movement. NMM has over 1,500 churches and missions in North India, as well as several Bible Colleges and children's homes. The North American office is located in London, Ontario. Following Pastor Punnoose's message and prayer, led by the Touchet Valley pastors, there will be coffee and an opportunity to meet with him. Dayton's 4-H dog club is joining with a club in Walla Walla to offer a Clicker Training Seminar in the youth building at the Columbia County Fairgrounds beginning at 10 a.m. Chis Hamer, the creator of Dog Sense seminars, is coming from Mount Vernon, Wash., to deliver an informative, interactive program. The cost is $10 for those not in 4-H. There will be an on-your-own lunch break and an afternoon of question and answers along with more work for dogs and handlers. The Christian Women's Connection's monthly meeting takes place at the Lions Club Building at the Waitsburg Fairgrounds from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $9 and reservations are required. 31Living History Party at Fort Walla Walla Museum on Myra Road. This will be the museum's final performance of the year, a 19th Century part at 2 p.m. in the museum's pioneer
settlement. Visitors can listen to 19th Century popular music played by the Oregon Trail Band at 1:30 p.m. Park hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 students and seniors 62 and up, $3 children ages 6-12 and free for those under 6.
