Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Secure First Win Of Seasonlar,

The Bulldogs earned their first win of the season Friday night in a match against St. George's JV squad. The Spokane team split in two for games against WP in Prescott and the Bulldogs in Dayton on Friday.

With the top-ranking Dragons distracted in their struggle against the Tigers, the Bulldogs picked up a 2-0 defeat. "I'm just very happy with the team," said head coach DJ Frame. "The cool thing was they just took care of business, from warm ups to locker room talk. The coaches didn't have to do much."

Davy Phillips, and two juniors, Blake Powell and Adam Strohbehn, have come out as leaders this year, Frame said. Goals against St. George were made by Gabe Garcia and Marshall Nechodom. On Saturday the Bulldogs headed to Yakima to play Riverside Christian. The match ended in a loss, 4-0 in the Crusaders' favor. But the Bulldogs were thrilled going into halftime with just one point against them. "We see them as a pretty talented team," Frame said. "It was fun for our team to see them panicking a little bit." This had the Bulldogs fired up until there were about 13 minutes left in the game. A bad bounce inside the goal box gave the Crusaders a second point. The final two scores by the Yakima team were earned in the last six minutes of the game. "It probably falls on me and some of my substitutions," Frame said. "They recognized where our shifts were and attacked them. I was basically out-coached."

Tuesday night's game against the WP Tigers was another loss for Dayton, but Frame was proud of his team's attitude. "Our kids acknowledged that those Waitsburg kids are great athletes," he said. "So our goal was to try out some new things against a good team. I'm proud of the team in that each time we face WP we've done better. They just played through to the end, versus the first game against WP when I had kids who just wanted out of there.

"That's the definition of courage. To know you're up against pretty tough odds, but still give it your all. I think they're a courageous bunch of kids."

Dayton plays one non-league game and one regular game to finish off the season this year.

Friday they have an overnight road trip to Trout Lake. Then Tuesday night at Moses Lake the Bulldogs will play their final league game of the season.
