Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - Travis Stephenson, Ski Bluewood's new general manager, reported eight inches of snow at the resort early this week. The early dusting was welcomed with excitement by the new owners. It was both a reminder that the season is just around the corner and how much still needs to be done to get the mountain ready. One of the many tasks still at hand is the recruitment of at least half the workforce. To get that process underway, Ski Bluewood is hosting a job fair from 4 - 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, at the Seneca Activities Building, 103 Labor Camp Road in Dayton.
Ski Bluewood co-owner Kelly Stephenson said the resort hopes to fill about 60 positions, including six to 10 lift operators, six to 10 kitchen workers, eight to 12 employees for the rental shop, pub staff, ticket sellers and 30 - 40 ski instructors.
Most positions will require some sort of specialized training, and all employees will go through customer service clinics to come in line with the new owners' emphasis on a culture of fun and positive experiences on the slopes, she said.
"Employees need to know this is a professional deal," Kelly Stephenson said. "We're going to raise the bar."
The new Ski Bluewood owners expect many former employees to return. Most former department managers have already agreed to come back, though the Stephensons are still recruiting an experienced food service manager and a bookkeeper who knows Quickbooks and employment taxes to work at the downtown Dayton office. In other Bluewood news, former office manager Betty Stanfill has accepted the Stephensons' offer to return to her post at the Main Street office. She started Monday. Stanfill has been with Bluewood for a decade with the first six years on the mountain and the last four years at the downtown office, where the old phone is working again as well: 509-382-4725.
