OAKESDALE - For the first time since 1967, the Cardinals have a perfect 9-0 season thanks to a hard-fought win against an equally tough TOR playing at home.
quot;We knew it would be a fist fight,quot; head coach Zach Bartlow told his team after the game. quot;I told you we would win it by 1 (point) if we had to.quot;
Kris Cady was the undisputed MVP of the game, blocking a Nighthawks' extra point attempt that turned out the give WP it's winning margin.
Throughout the tame, he made up for a bad play, trying to control a live ball for a punt return but instead turning it over very close to the WP goal line.
The Cardinals were the first to score on it's second possession. They simply marched into the red zone and handed it to Cady who ran it in for a touchdown. But Dalton Estes' kick was wide, so WP w as ahead 6-0.
A few minutes into the second quarter, TOR scored it's first touchdown and its extra-point kick was good to out them ahead 7-6 until the Cardinals scored again with a touchdown pass to TJ Hofer, who also caught Zach Bartlow's pass for the 2-point conversion. the first half ended with WP up 14-7.
The fateful Cady turnover came in the third quarter and led to the Nighthawks' second touchdown. Cady immediately redeemed himself by blocked the extra point. The score was now 14-13 and would remain that way thanks to tough defensive battle that Cardinals won.
