Valley Soccer Round Upregular

The WP Tigers host St. George out of Spokane on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 2:30 p.m. in Prescott. This soccer match is a loser-out contest for state. The Tigers, a first-year team, have broken several league records this season and remain undefeated at 16-0. The team is second among 1B/2B schools in the state. Prescott's Elizabeth Xaudaro is the highest-ranking female player in the league, having scored three goals during the season. WP dominates in number of goals, assists, and shutouts. And the Tigers have scored more points this season than any other team in the league, at 109 balls netted. The only other team that comes close is La Conner, with 90 points scored in the

season. La Conner is currently ranked number three in the state. The winner of Thursday's match in Prescott will play either Northwest Christian or Northport in Spokane on Friday, Nov. 5, for the number one and number two seeds to state from Districts 7 and 9. The Dayton Bulldogs finished their regular season with a playoff game in Spokane on Saturday. The local team lost 4-0 to Northport, a team the Bulldogs tied against earlier in the season, but coach DJ Frame was excited to report that his team was down just one point at the half. "We were feeling good," Frame said. "We'd had a great week of practice leading up to the game." Looking ahead to the 2011 season, Frame said the Bulldogs will lose two seniors, but one was a first-year player this year. "So we're not losing much," he said. "Just one seasoned player."

He was also happy to hear, during a final team meeting Tuesday, that for the first time ever, many of his players are looking at joining other sports during the rest of the school year - track, for example, basketball and baseball.

"It's gratifying to see them realize that soccer can be more than just signing up for the team in August," Frame said. "A majority of them want to work on weights and stay in shape. It's a cool thing for them to want to stay active in the off season."
