COWBOY COWGIRL WIN AWARDS DAYTON - Dayton's Kellyo Gallaher competed in 20 days of Northwest Senior Timed Event Rodeo this summer to win Sombrero Arena All Around Champion Saddle, Butch Wise Memorial All Around Cowboy Winter Horse Blanket, 50-59 All Around Cowboy Silver Buckle, 50-59 Tie-Down Roping Champion Buckle, 50-59 Breakaway Roper Cham­pion Buckle, 50-59 Ribbon Roper Champion Buckle, and 50-59 Heeler Champion Buckle. CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS TAX HIKE

WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg City Council on Wednes­day is conducting a public hearing to consider a proposed increase of tax revenues for fiscal 2011. The proposed increase is one percent of tax revenues collected in 2010.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at Fairgrounds Lions Club Me­morial Building at 349 E. St. Copies of the 2011 preliminary budget will be available to the public Nov. 15. Contact city hall at 509-337-6371.

PROGRAM TO CUT FOREST FIRE RISK DAYTON - The Blue Mountain Resource Conservation and Development Council forestry cost share program is available now. It is targeted to help landowners pay for forest management costs to improve forest health through thinning or to reduce the wildfire threat to forest property, homes and recreational sites.

The program, funded through a National Fire Plan grant directed through the Washington Department of Natural Resources, will provide cost share funds to small and large landowners, including cabin owners and subdivisions. The RCD Council will reimburse 50 percent and up to 75 per­cent of actual costs with a per acre not to exceed rate. Cost share approvals between $500 and $10,000 will be reim­bursed at 75 percent of cost. Cost share approvals between $10,001 and $30,000 will be reimbursed at a 50 percent rate. Information packets available at the Blue Mountain RCD Council in Dayton include general specificationsfor forestry cost share practices and the rates the RCD Council will reimburse.

FIREWOOD CUTTING SEASON CLOSES UMATILLA NATIONAL FOREST - Personal-use firewood cutting areas on the Umatilla National Forest will close for the season on Monday, Nov. 15. Firewood permits can be purchased up until Nov. 15 at any Umatilla National Forest office or at several local businesses in the community. Permits cost $5 per cord with a minimum purchase of four cords for $20. A maximum purchase of 12 cords total, per household, is allowed from National Forest lands during the calendar year.
