Nine Valley Players Make All League

WAITSBURG - Seven Cardinals and two Bulldogs were elected all league in the District 9 Southeast 2B football league this season. For the Cardinals, this is more than in any other year in recent memory.

Head coach Jeff Bartlow was elected Coach of the Year.

Quarterback Zach Bart­low, running back Kris Cady, receiver TJ Hofer and offensive lineman Tre Bran­nock were elected by the league's coaches for their positions on offense. Defensive back Justin Armstrong, linebacker Grant Germain (Jubilee) and defensive lineman Da­vid Brock got the recogni­tion for their efforts on defense.

The two all-league Day­ton players this year were quarterback Colton Bick­elhaupt

on defense and offensive lineman Kroft Sunderland on offense.

Seven DeSales players also received the honor, fol­lowed by five from Asotin, four from TOR and two from Tri Cities Prep. It was a record-setting year for the Cardinals in other respects. Cady, who logged 957 yards running (106 yards per game) during the regu­lar 9-game season, passed the 1,000-yard mark in WP's playoff game against Reardan and added 32 more yards in Saturday's game against Oroville.

At 1,135 yards in 11 games, he bettered the 1,044-yard record set in 1999 by Scott Zuecher in 10 games. Cady had 119 car­ries

and seven touchdowns during the regular season. Quarterback Zach Bartlow came second with 111 car­ries,

519 yards rushing for a per-game average of 66 yards. He had four touch­downs. TJ Hofer led the regular season's receiving stats with 33 receptions for 456 yards or just over 50 yards per game. He also had seven touchdowns. Cady came in second on the air front with 25 carries for 358 yards and four touchdowns. Dalton Estes followed him with an impressive 17 receptions for 326 yards and three touchdowns, while Anthony Powell recorded 14 catches for 189 yards and one touchdowns. Dustin Wooderchak caught five passes for 76 yards and three touchdowns.

Bartlow had 118 comple­tions out of 183 throws or 64 percent for 1,547 yards or 171 yards per game.

On offense, Cady led the scoreboard with 66 points, followed by Hofer with 62, Estes with 38, Armstrong with 26 and Bartlow with 24.

On defense, Tre Bran­nock led the tackle count at 32 solo tackles and 65 assists for a total of 97 with an average of 10.7 per game. He was followed by Cady with 26 solo tackles and 37 assists for a total of 63 or 7 per game. Although he played defense in fewer games, Bartlow had the next highest tackling perfor­mance with 20 solo tackles and 32 assists for a total of 52 or 8.6 per game.

Morgan Robinson, Es­hom Estes and Grant Ger­main each had 5.9, 5.7 and 5.0 tackles per game.

In Dayton, the stat lead­ers on offense included Josh Frame and Dain Hen­derson with 118 carries for 545 yards and 110 carries for 490 yards respectively. Bickelhaupt rushed for 257 yards. He also completed 61 of his 127 passing attempts for 650 yards and 5 touch­downs. On the receiving front, Joey Schlachter topped the chart with 18 catches for 194 yards, followed by Ga­rett Turner with 14 for 145 yards, Hayden Fullerton with 12 for 165 yards and Wyatt with 9 for 113 yards. Sunderland led in tackles with 111 (solos and assists combined). Henderson had 69, Albert Yacovelli 66, Bickelhaupt 48 and Josh Frame 46.
