Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor: Last month the Waitsburg Preschool went on a field trip to the Waitsburg fire station where Fire Chief Jim Callahan, First Captain Brian Callahan, and firefighter Greg McVay gave us our tour. What I thought would be just a fun experience for the kids turned out to be a great learning experience. I have always talked about fire safety with my son and was sure I had covered everything. It wasn't until Brian put on his full firefighter gear, mask and oxygen tank, that I realized how scary a firefighter can look to a child. Jim explained to the kids that if there was a firethis was what a firefighter will look and sound like when they come into your house and not to be afraid and never hide.

I think this was a great opportunity for the kids to see this firsthand.

I would like thank the Waitsburg fire department not only for our field trip but for their dedication and service.

Dear Editor:

There's freedom in being informed and organized, but for the most part we choose entertainment. Yet we have some freedom and time, hopefully, to choose to be informed. Is anyone interested? I will list a few DVDs for a start as must sees. Ben Stein connects all the dots to get one thinking in a documentary, "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed," a brilliant wake-up call for the human race. In a public meeting my freedom was denied from informing those present of seeing the documentary, "Expelled." The reasoning of the V-P on whose ground I was on-"We could be sued." Have we lost our freedom to share information about freedom or slavery? FDR often quoted, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." In Nazi Germany,

the V-P could have shot me dead on the spot and received a raise in pay for his obedience to protect a lie. In our world we are losing our freedom in support of a lie through fear of being sued or losing our job(s).

Stein's documentary, "Expelled," is not being shown in schools, universities, or churches. Even pastors, having

themselves seen it, don't promote showing it to their congregations. For $5 (1-800-247-4784) plus postage you can become informed.

Hoping for the best to be is not in "who's right" but "what's right" and being willing to die for it. Other informative DVD documentaries are "Food, Inc.;" "King Corn;" "Who Killed the Electric Car;" "Voyage that shook the World;" The American Heritage series by David Barton; The Truth Project by focus on the Family;

The Collapse of Christian America by Answers in Genesis. We will never understand what's going on in the world until we understand an ideology-

a total idea which grips the hearts, minds and souls of people and nations with a worldview of change for everyone to live and work together or blow up together.

Being prepared for the worst is hoping for the "Best to Be." This is the human struggle that goes on in your heart and mine every day. Who will we serve-God or materialism? Being informed for intelligent choosing is best for survival.
