About 425 people attended this year's Turkey Bingo at the Dayton Elementary School on Saturday. This event, organized since 1986 by the Kiwanis Club of Dayton, raised close to $3,500 to support the Dayton community. Ted Paterson, who chairs the Bingo committee, said the local Kiwanis Club raises $12,000 to $14,000 through various events and projects during the year; all the money is used to support the community and 80 percent goes toward scholarships, youth sports and other educational programs in town. At Saturday evening's event, 1,300 Bingo cards were sold, 120 turkeys were given out as prizes and 450 pounds of food was collected for the Dayton Food Bank. About $5,000 in prizes, including the turkeys, were awarded, 90 percent of these were donated to the club by local businesses and residents. People began lining up at 10 a.m. (The first person in line automatically won a turkey.) The doors opened at 3 p.m.
