Dayton resident Terry Jay Brown, 61, died at Providence St. Mary in Walla Walla, Wash., on December 18, 2010, after losing his battle with cancer. A memorial dinner will be served at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, at the Dayton Blue Mt. Eagles Lodge, 222 E. Main.
Terry was born on Nov. 12, 1949, in Dayton, Washington, to Clinton and Doris Annabelle (Jones) Brown. Terry graduated from Dayton High School and worked for Columbia County Farm Bureau in Columbia County, Wash.
Terry had a way with horses, working most of his life training horses at various tracks. From 1988 until 2005, Terry trained race horses at Turf Paradise Race Track in Arizona and was track superintendent. Terry was also track superintendent at Ruidoso Downs Race Track in New Mexico, and Zia Park in Hobbs, New Mexico, from 2005 until 2010.
Terry leaves his wife, Anita, at home in Dayton; daughter Paula S. Montoya in Phoenix, Ariz., son Bodie J. Brown in San Diego, Calif.; sisters Jody R Hatfield of Dayton and Shelli Van Ausdle of College Place, Wash.; granddaughters Jessica and Taylor Montoya and grandson Nathan White in Phoenix, Ariz, and grandson Nathan White. Extended family include: aunts Jana Davis of Yakima and Wilda Brown of Dayton, nephew Charlie Hatfield of Pasco, Wash., and nieces Chancie Hatfield of Pullman, Rhonda VanAusdle Michael and Jamie VanAusdle of Walla Walla, Wash.
Mr. Brown is preceded in death by his mother and father.
Contributions may be made to the Cancer Society. Merchant Funeral Home, out of Clarkston, Idaho, is taking care of the family.
