WP Men Win 5th In A Row

TOUCHET - The Waitsburg Prescott boys started 2011 with a win against the Touchet Indians at their home court Tuesday night.

"Touchet was a scrappy team," WP head coach TJ Scott said. "They caused us to fall back in the game."

The Cardinals beat Touchet 52-30, making the boys varsity team 6-1 for the season.

"Matthew Hamilton and Zach Bartlow both played great games," Scott said. "They helped keep us on top. Bartlow and Hamilton extended the fourth quarter that resulted in a pretty easy win."

Bartlow had 18 points in the game and Hamilton had 10.

During the Helix Holiday Tournament, in Helix, Ore., on Tuesday, Dec. 28, WP played against Klickitat. The Cardinals won 77-31.

"It was a great team effort," Scott said. "Everyone did what they were supposed to do."

Bartlow and Dustin Wooderchuck picked up the scoring load, Scott said. Bartlow had 20 points by the end of the game and Wooderchuck had 12.

The second day of the Hol iday Tournament , Wednesday, Dec. 29, was moved to Friday the 31st in Waitsburg because of severe weather and danger- ous road conditions earlier in the week.

That game, against North Powder, ended with another tight WP win. The final score was 52-51.

Kris Cady had a "really good game on both ends of the court," Scott said. "We were in a 10-0 hole, and Cady gave us that spark that led us back into the game."

Cady had a big steal right at the end of the game, which was the key to winning the game by one point. It was a close game, Scott said.Waitsburg Prescott's next game is this Friday against Asotin at home.

"It will be a big game for us," Scott said.

In an earlier interview with Scott, the Cardinals coach said that Asotin will be a big competitor this year.

"It will be great to see how we hold," Scott said.

The girls' varsity game starts at 6 p.m., and the boys play at 7:30.
