Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - The Tri-Cities Prep Jaguars proved no match for the Bulldogs Friday night as both of Dayton's men's and women's teams took top score in league match-ups.
The Lady Bulldogs were triumphant after winning their second game of the season.
"We needed a league win really bad," said junior Nicole Lambert, top scorer of the night with 17 points against the Jaguars.
The Lady Bulldogs out matched TCP 46-32. The ladies got a quick jump on TCP. By the end of the second quarter, the Lady Bull- dogs had a 13-point lead.
But the Jaguars pushed hard in the second half. In the last half of the third quarter, TCP began closing the gap.
"The girls began to get frustrated at that point," said Dayton head coach Scott Hudson. "I think they started out with such a big lead, they relaxed."
Their actions became so frantic, fighting for possession of the ball and rushing in such haste down the court that they lost control of the ball, several people in the crowd were hollering, "Take your time girls! Slow down!"
With a minute and a half left in the third quarter, the teams were dead even.
In the last quarter of the game, Dayton scored 18 points for TCP's five.
"This is a big win for the girls, really," Hudson said.
In a remarkable turn of events, the Dayton men beat TCP with an identical score to that of the women, 46-32.
The Bulldog men also took the lead right away. By the half, the score was 21-15 in Dayton's favor.
Lead scorers for the men were juniors Garett Turner, with 16; Hayden Fullerton, with 9; and Kroft Sunderland, with 8.
The Bulldogs kept a strong lead against TCP for the remainder of the game. TCP tried a hard push in the fourth quarter, matching baskets point for point against the Bulldogs, but it wasn't enough to give them the lead.
