Racers Get Olympic Recognition Third Naylor Serves As Page:

USK, WA - Two members of the Bluewood Alpine Race Team were named as alternates in this year's Junior Olympics, March 16-20 at Squaw Valley, Calif..

Reid Reininger and Colleen Gibbons, both of Walla Walla, made the transition from Youth Ski League racing to Juniors racing this season. Being 13 years old, both are first year J3 competitors.

"There are only 40 spots on the JO team and nearly 200 J3 racers in the PNSA competing for them." said BART head coach Hal White.

"Colleen and Reid have shown they can ski in the top of the pack at Juniors races, and they still have two years to develop," White added, speculating that one or both of them could make the team in coming years.

White expects this year's experience to be good for the racers and for the team. The BART Juniors team is expected to add at least three athletes next year and three more the following year as Youth team members mature.

"The younger athletes all look up to them and they are putting in the work to improve. That's a great example for everyone on the team," White said.
