PRESCOTT - The Lady Tigers took to the field Saturday in a non-league doubleheader against the St. John Eagles, beating their opponents 7-0 and 8-0.
Led by the pitching attack of Jennifer Nichols and Kazmira Grende the Tigers shut down the Eagles in an all-out blowout.
Hailey Goenen got things started off for the Tigers when she stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first and hammered a solo home run.
The Eagles had an opportunity to even things up in the top of the third with bases loaded and two outs but were denied when Nichols saved the inning with one of her 10 strike outs of the day.
The Tigers' offense dominated the fourth inning beginning with Megan Withers hitting a single, advancing Goenen three bases to score and bring the lead to 2-0.
With no outs yet that inning, Dionna Baker conneceds for a triple, bringing in two runners and extending the lead to 4-0. A sacrifice slap-shot down third baseline by Ashley Wilson brought in another Tiger and the inning ended with a 5-0 lead.
The Eagles remained scoreless through the fifth inning, when the Tiger infield scoped up every ball shot their way and took to the plate once again.
Alyssa Hafen slugged a double and combined her aggressive base running for another Tiger run to take a 6-0 lead after the fifth inning. The Tigers took the opener with a final score of 7-0.
Grende took to the mound for the Tigers and threw down five strike outs for the day. The rattling of the bats continued with two hits each from Katy Hofer and Goenen, including a two-run home run from Goenen, her second of the day.
Six other Tigers contributed at the plate, and that was just what they needed to clinch the doubleheader with an 8-0 victory over the Eagles.
With their first home victories under their belts, these girls are pumped up and look forward to their next contest.
They play in Asotin this Saturday against the Panthers to open up league play at 11 a.m.
