DAYTON - A new board of directors has been elected for the Dayton Farmers Market with Travis Richardson as its chairman.
"Our number one goal this year is to attract new vendors and broaden the market's appeal," he said.
Starting June 24, the market will be held Friday afternoons 4 - 7 pm under the trees on the Seneca lawn at 711 E. Main. On Saturdays, the market will be held from 9 am to 2 pm on N. First St. The vendor fee will be $6 for both days.

GROCERY CELEBRATES 25TH
WAITSBURG - Waitsburg Grocery owner Dan Cole will mark and celebrate his 25th anniversary in business this weekend with special prizes on beer, pop and snacks this Saturday, June 18.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Pepsi Pop trailer will offer hot dogs and chips for donations to the WP Press Box & Sports Equipment Storage facility at Cardinal Field and a football camp for the team.
NURSERY NOT CLOSED
HUNTSVILLE - Ace Landscaping's new nursery off Highway 12 will continue to do business despite a notice to owner John Palmer that he needs to obtain a permit for his retail operation in an area zoned agricultural.
Officially, Ace can't operate at his site under current regulations, but he's allowed to continue pending the search for a way to qualify the nursery for a conditional use permit from the county.
"We're all working together on this," said Palmer, who has invested tens of thousands of dollars in the new plant business. "It's been a process. I think they (commissioners) want the business here, but we need to follow the rules and regulations."
SMART GROWTH AWARD
WAITSBURG - Waitsburg is among 12 communities in the state named as winners of the 2011 Smart Communities Awards announced recently by Gov. Christine Gregoire.
The dozen communities are considered models for planning for smart growth. Waitsburg received a Judges' Merit Award for its Downtown Revitalization Project.
Awards will be presented to city winners at the Association of Washington Cities Conference in Spokane June 23.
GRANT TO RESTORE BUILDING AD
DAYTON - The Sherwood Trust has awarded $45,000 to the Dayton Development Task Force, $20,000 of which will be used to restore the historic advertisements on the back of three buildings between Main Street and the depot.
The remaining $25,000 will be used to prepare plans for the continuing upgrading of the historic downtown corridor.
WWII BOMBER AT AIRPORT
WALLA WALLA - The B-25 Mitchell MAID IN THE SHADE bomber from the Commemorative Air Force Arizone Wing Aviation Museum will be on display at the Walla Walla Regional Airport offering rides and tours Tuesday, June 21 through Sunday, June 26 9 am to 6 pm.
