Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - The Dayton City Council Monday moved adopted a six-year transportation plan that includes several infrastructure projects for roadways, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, storm drains and bridges.
The transportation plan has 18 different projects that could begin as early as 2012 and last through 2017. Projects range in cost from $170,000 to $1.4 million with a total of more than $8 million over six years.
The plan is basically a wish list. It's required by law to be submitted to the Washington Department of Transportation every year and helps the city secure funding from the state and federal agencies.
With state money tight and federal highway funds drying up, projects might not begin for years.
According to a staff report, the number one project on the list is the reconstruction of Front Street from Main Street to Dayton Avenue. The plan calls for the roadway in the area to be reconstructed, new curbs and gutters, and sidewalks installed to meet with the American with Disabilities Act. The estimated cost of the project is $945,000 and the project is slated for 2012 to 2013.
A second project also earmarked for 2012 to 2013 is the replacement or repair of the North Front Street Bridge.
