One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago September 4, 1886 O.C. White and J.K. Rainwater of Dayton have purchased the Dayton Chronicle for $6,000. Mr. White is a good newspaperman and the Chronicle will continue to be a good paper. Last Sunday morning at ten o'clock a rapid sounding of a fire bell quickly disorganized Sunday Schools and depleted churches in this city and rapidly thronged the streets with people dressed in their best bib and tucker. It was soon discovered that the fire was in Doc Willard's stables. Total loss was $3,000. Siwashes are numerous now-a-days. Oh for a shower of rain to drive away the smoke, settle the dust and cool and moisten the atmosphere! This has been a long, hot dusty summer, the worst we've had in all these respects in three years. Miss Mattie Eggleston went to Dayton yesterday to enter on her duties as teacher of a kindergarten school in that city.
