CITY LOOKS AT REMOVING BMX TRACK
WAITSBURG - During Wednesday night's Waitsburg City Council meeting, the city staff and council will discuss closing the BMX track on Main Street. City Clerk Randy Hinchliffe said the track was built by the Lion's Club in 2001, however, it doesn't receive much use. The city pays to maintain it each year and will evaluate whether to keep it up and running. The council meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Lion's Club Community Building at the Fairground Facility.
MASS BAND AND CHORUS AT WHS
WAITSBURG -- High School MASS Band and Chorus is coming to Waitsburg. For the sixth consecutive year, crowds of high school musicians will converge on Waitsburg High School for an afternoon of rehearsals and an evening concert on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Kison Court in the Waitsburg High School Gym. A modest admission will be charged. This year's expert conductors are Waitsburg's Roger Garcia, band director at Garrison Middle School and head of the music department at Walla Walla School District, and Ms. Ronda Gabbard, choral instructor for Walla Walla Schools. The concert is open to the public.
COMMUNITY TAILGATE PARTY
WAITSBURG -- The Waitsburg High School ASB Student Council will be hosting a Community Tailgate Party on Friday, Oct. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m., just before the homecoming kickoff versus Asotin. The tailgate party will be in the grassy area near the football field. The ASB Student Council will be providing chili, hot dogs and lemonade. Please bring a potluck goodie to share.
PARKS AND RECREATION LEVY
PRESCOTT -- Prescott area voters are reminded that operation of the Prescott swimming pool in 2012 depends on passage of the levy included in the general election ballot due Nov.8. A 60 percent supermajority is required for levy passage. Proposition Number 1 calls for a $110,000 maintenance and operation levy to fund the Prescott pool and park for 2012. Walla Walla County officials estimate this as $0.48 per $1,000.00 assessed value.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING
WAITSBURG -- The Waitsburg Historical Society will be meeting on Monday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Wilson Phillips house.
TIM FULLER BENEFIT
DAYTON - A spaghetti feed, silent auction and bake sale to benefit Tim Fuller and help him win his battle against cancer will be held at 5 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the multipurpose room at the Dayton School District. The cost is $10 a plate or $30 for a family. Tickets can be purchased before the event at Elk Drug in Dayton or Meyers hardware in Pomeroy. Donations can also be made to the Tim Fuller account at Bank of America in Dayton.
TRICK-OR-TREAT AT THE TIMES OFFICE
WAITSBURG - The Times office in Waitsburg will be handing out Halloween treats to children who come in costume on Monday, Oct. 31 between 3 and 5 p.m. Come in your favorite costume, take home candy and you may see your photo in the next issue of the paper.
HALLOWEEN AT SHERIFF'S OFFICE
DAYTON - Children are invited to visit the Columbia County Sheriff's Office on Monday, Oct. 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a free bag of Halloween goodies. Costumes are encouraged. This is a revival of an annual Halloween event, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office. The last time candy was handed out was 1992. This year, in addition to treats kids will receive 911 educational materials, coloring book, stickers and more.
HALLOWEEN AT LIBERTY THEATER
DAYTON -- Join the Liberty Theater for a Halloween cocktail party, Monster Martini Mash. Martinis and substantive (you won't need dinner following these delectable delights) hor d'oeuvres followed by a screening of Mel Brooks classic film, Young Frankenstein, starring Gene Wilder & Madeline Kahn. MARKEETA LITTLE WOLF IN CONCERT
WAITSBURG - Markeeta Little Wolf, Waitsburg's own former mayor and Australian singing sensation, will perform her first show in 25 years. Markeeta Little Wolf In Concert is Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Theater at 208 Main St. in Waitsburg. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased by calling 509-337-6643.
FREE DRIVER SAFETY CLASS
DAYTON - The AARP Driver Safety Program announces that in November any veteran and or their spouse of any age are eligible to take a safety class free of charge. Don Palmer of Dayton will conduct an 8-hour class in two sessions at the Dayton Senior Center on Nov. 1 and 2. The Nov. 1 class is from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and the Nov. 2 class is from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The AARP Driver Safety class us designed for drivers over the age of 50, but it is open to people of any age. MEADWORKS HALLOWEEN EVENT
DAYTON -- Mace Mead Works presents "Army of Darkness" on Halloween night at the Liberty Theater. On Monday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m., come catch this Sam Raimi classic with a Halloween Party to follow at Mace Mead Works from 9 p.m. to midnight.
