Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG- Th e Waitsburg High School 2011 Homecoming festivities began with classes decorating their designated spots of the hallways in their own fashion to show off their Cardinal pride.
Although the seniors' lights and streamers were a festive addition to the cage, the juniors took top prize with their football field surrounded by red lights, and their hanging volleyball net with cutouts of the class.
Monday's dress up was a color-coded theme to show what your status was for the dance.
Tuesday was "twin day" where matching shirts and leggings were a hot item.
Wednesday's "fake an injury day" was full of crutches and bloody gauze.
Zach Bartlow's bathroom mugging victim and Samantha Henze's woman who was struck by lightning were some of the original concepts presented.
The freshman class took home the best dressed award with Emma Philebrook's headless woman and Owen Lanning's injured runner who drank from an IV bag as he gimped along on one crutch.
Wednesday night's field night was full of action with a football toss where sophomore Chelsey Brannock gave Bartlow a run for his money, but in the end she came up a few yards short.
Seniors Greg Stearns, Cadman Donovan, and Chris Brooks fought back their gag reflexes to be the first ones to devour a large pizza, and the seniors remained dry and clean as they dragged all the underclassman through the mud in the tug-of-war competition.
The underclassman fought tooth and nail but the seniors dominated the powder puff competition to end the night's festivities.
Thursday brought out the older scene with "senior citizen day."
Kristin Potter's cat lady costume was complete with pink rollers in her hair with a bathrobe and her gray tabby cat that she cuddled closely.
The seniors took the prize for this day with Kayla Huxull's wealthy widow and Zach Bartlow's well-dressed retiree.
The Buff Puff competition proved the boys should stay on the football field as skill and technique were thrown out the window.
The freshmen were dressed for the part, but finished last and will surely be a force to reckon with in years to come.
The sophomores were small in numbers, but played with heart as they took third place.
The over-confident seniors soon found themselves in too deep as the juniors quickly put the stink on them in the title game.
The Estes brothers battled at the net and the senior's struggled with their passing game. The gym was united in cheer as the seniors were defeated, 25- 16.
Friday was spirit day and although there were no prizes given out this day, freshman Samii Bledsoe rocked the gym with her cardinal face paint job that put the senior class members to shame.
Our boys of fall rocked the house with a 48-20 victory over the Asotin Panthers and the student body danced the night away Saturday night to Midnight Madness in Preston Hall.
The students did a fabulous job representing the school and town this last week as the Waitsburg- Prescott Cardinals pulled off another memorable homecoming week.
