Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON-The Dayton Lady Bulldogs clinched the Blue Mountain League Volleyball Championship as they left their teeth marks on the Desales Fighting Irish in three games, 25-22, 25-12, and 25-21.
With its only loss of the season being to the Asotin Panthers the Bulldogs proved that hard work, passion, team work, and the sheer desire to win is what it takes to end the season on top.
The Bulldogs defense was rock-solid as Nicole Lambert and McKayla Bickelhaupt got down and dirty for 23 digs each.
Shelby Smith and Courtney Mings were a force to be reckoned with on the net as they blocked four of the Irish's attacks.
Rounding out the Bulldogs defense was Darci Hall who got a hold of 11 Irish attacks and Jessica Tate who scooped up 12.
Courtney Mings contributed 10 digs while Sarah Phillips dug up 5.
The Bulldogs offense was spot on with Bickelhaupt and Tate each serving 100 percent and Hall tossing up 8 assists and Chelsea Wooldridge leading with nine assists.
Bickelhaupt threw down 10 kills and Lambert was right on her heels with eight. Smith swung away for five kills and Tate, Mings, and Lexi Ramirez each contributed two kills a piece to round out the Bulldogs attack.
"We went in knowing what we had to do and we did it," said Dayton head coach Shannon Turner. "We kept our focus and momentum most of the match."
"Our errors were minimal and we played as a team," said Turner.
The Bulldogs begin district play November 2.
