WP Skills Lead To Homecoming Victory

WAITSBURG-The WP Lady Cardinals celebrated a 2011 Homecoming victory over the Tri-City Prep Jaguars last Thursday night on Kison Court.

WP's Ronnie Hulce, Krystal Harris and Dionna Baker each had a serving ace and a kill to help take the Cardinals to an early 12-6 lead over the Jaguars in game one.

The Jaguars rallied scoring on two missed Cardinals attacks, a Cardinal block that flew out of bounds and two kills of their own to pull within one point at 15-14.

The Cardinals answered with back-to-back kills from Hulce and Harris, but the Jaguars threw down two kills of their own and the Cardinals were caught in the net to tie the game up at 18.

The Jaguars pulled ahead with a serving ace and scored three unanswered points from Cardinals' errors.

Cardinal Rhiannon Chapman broke the streak with her first kill of the night. Jennifer Nichols smoked a serving ace and Harris added another kill to tie the game up at 23, but the birds missed its next serve and sent an attack too deep. The lead went back to the Jaguars, 25-24.

The Cardinals tied it back up with a kill from Hulce and took the go ahead game point after the Jaguars were unable to return the volley.

Harris sent down the game winning kill and the Cardinals won game one, 27-25.

The Jaguars were first to score in game two with an ace but the Cardinals answered with a kill from Hulce, its own ace from Harris and a Sarah Mascall kill to take an early 3-1 lead.

The two teams exchanged points as they both suffered from unforced errors before Hulce racked up threestraight serving aces and Baker blocked a Jaguar attack to take an 11-6 lead.

The Jaguars managed a kill and another ace of their own but WP's Nichols put some heat on the ball racking up four straight aces to take the lead to 19-10.

WP's Mascall smacked down two kills while setter Kayla Huxull tipped one to the hole in the Jaguars' defense before TCP tallied up three straight serving aces to tie the game up at 23.

The Jaguars missed their next serve but the Cards were called for a lift then were unable to return the volley and the birds were down 24-25.

WP's Samantha Fedderson connected for a kill to tie the game back up at 25 but the Jaguars answered with a kill of their own and took back the lead 25-26.

Two back-to-back errors from the Jaguars and an ace from Baker gave the Cardinals a game two win 28-26.

Two back-to-back kills from Mascall and one from Hulce combined with four Jaguar errors jumped the Cardinals to a 7-0 lead in game three.

Two Cardinal errors and a Jaguar ace put the cats on the board but WP's Amanda Cook took side out with a kill and scored again with a serving ace.

The Jaguars rallied with a few freebies from Cardinal errors, but the game was secured with two kills from Hulce and a game point kill from Chapman and the Car- dinals took the match with a game three victory 25-15.

Tuesday night, the Cardinals beat the Liberty Christian Patriots in three games, 25-9, 25-10, 25-20.

Tuesday night was Senior Night in Kison Court. Seniors were showered with flowers and balloons from their parents and coaches.

They finished league play in fourth place and begin district play next Wednesday in Dayton at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs finished first in league standings.
