Ten Years Ago November 1, 2001 The Weinhard Hotel in Dayton has received one of Work- Soure Walla Walla's 2001 Employer of the Year Awards for Walla Walla and Columbia Counties. The true heart and devotion demonstrated towards the success of their business, employees, customers and community is the basis that the Weinhard Hotel of Dayton, Washington is deserving of recognition. The College Place Wal-Mart was the other recipient of the award. Waitsburg High Football seniors and their manager were honored and recognized their parents at their final home football game. Cardinal volleyball and cross country seniors bowed out with a ceremony honoring their parents (and siblings) at the final home volleyball game.

Twenty-Five Years Ago October 30, 1986 Happy Halloween birthday to B.A. Keve. Suggested treats include diamonds, furs, Porsche or Mercedes, flowers, candy or all of the above. Waitsburg high varsity volleyball teams are undefeated in both season and league play with a league record of 13-0 and a season record of 15-0. The final league match is Oct. 30. A final non-league game with Riverview is Nov. 6. The team is composed of Tisha White, Brandee Halley, Michele White, Kitzi Hazelbaker, Carmela Epp, Angel Adams, Jenny Jamison, Sandy Conover and Angela Ferguson. The girls are coached by Margie Fanciullo and Laura Young.

Fifty Years Ago November 3, 1961 Mel Daniel has closed his blacksmith shop in Waitsburg and has accepted a position as welder for Pacific Gas Transmission Co. Seniors on the Cardinal football team this year are Jerry Harshman, Jim Bennett, Rick Huwe, Ed Bird, Bert Aylward and Duane Gusse. Glen Hofer of this city was named president of the Walla Walla County Association of Wheat Growers, succeeding Bob Stevens at the annual meeting last Friday. Commercial Club will host members of the Blue Mountain Ski club of Spout Springs on Tuesday evening. Allen Struthers is president of the ski club.

Seventy-Five Years Ago November 6, 1936 Short-wave receiving sets have been installed in the three cars of the county sheriff's office, Sheriff C.A. Woodward said. They will enable cars to pick up calls from the Walla Walla police station as well as other stations in Washington. Miss Hazel Harkins was honored on her 13th birthday last Saturday with a party given by her mother Mrs. O.E. Harkins. Sixteen of her school friends were guests. The Sorotus Club entertained for members and their friends at a masquerade dance Thursday evening, Oct. 29, at the Legion Hall. First prize went to a group composed of Mrs. Glenn Phillips, Mrs. Miles Brunton, Mrs. R.L. Veatch, Mrs. Donald Harris and Mrs. Dean Hagen.

One Hundred Years Ago November 3, 1911 The bill at the motion picture show at Park Theatre for Friday and Saturday nights will prove especially interesting. Manager Paisley has secured at considerable cost the complete films of "Col. Roosevelt in Africa." Chas. Peters was in the city a few days this week from Ritzville on a combined business and pleasure trip. He came overland with a bunch of fine mules. Frank Zuger purchased six head of the best animals. The Ladies Aid Society of the M.E. Church will serve dinner Saturday, Nov. 7 starting at 11:30 o'clock. Dinner 25 cents. This is the regular Harvest Home dinner given by the church and is open to the public.
