TERRY JACOY RECEPTION
WAITSBURG - Nov. 9 marks the end of an era. Terry Jacoy will be completing 23 years of service to the Waitsburg School District as a member of the Board of Directors. To honor him there be a reception that evening and staff and the community are invited. The reception will be held at 7 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. when the Board meeting commences. During the reception, the Board of Directors will present Jacoy with a gift of appreciation for his service to the Waitsburg School District.
TRAP SHOOTING TEAM RECEIVES GRANT
WAITSBURG -- Wilbur-Ellis has a fund through its corporate office called Impact Funds that are distributed to worthy projects in the community. The different branches of the company send in an application for a community project and a team of corporate employees vote on which projects get approved. Waitsburg Wilbur-Ellis sent in an application for funds to go to the Waitsburg FFA for a new clay pigeon thrower for the FFA's Trap Shooting team. It was approved and the company has donated $4,000 to the FFA club for that project. This will allow the FFA to hold trap shoots at the Waitsburg Gun Club.
JUBILEE YOUTH RANCH FUNDRAISER
PRESCOTT -- Jubilee Youth Ranch is busy getting final details ready for the Out of the Woods dinner fundraiser on Nov. 19 at the Cathedral of Joy located at 1153 Gage Boulevard in Richland. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m., and will spotlight the woodworking skills of the Jubilee students under the direction of their instructor Ray Fosnot. Guest speaker for the evening will be local philanthropist, Cheryl Broetje. Cheryl and her husband Ralph were selected as Pioneers of the Year from the Mid-Columbia Ag Hall of Fame. Special music will played by Devon Vibbert and the Jubilee Student Praise Band. Sponsors include Community First Bank, Integrity Design & J Hair Farms. Table sponsorship is $200 and individual tickets can be purchased for $25. TREE OF LIFE CEREMONY
WALLA WALLA -- The 25th Tree of Life tree and candle lighting ceremony will be held Sunday, Dec.11 at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Walla Walla Community Hospice. The ceremony will take place at the Die Brucke Building downtown Walla Walla (corner Main and First Streets). The ceremony includes the reading of the names in the Tree of Life book, music, candle lighting and refreshments. In coordination with the ceremony, individuals may dedicate a light on the tree in memory of or in honor of a loved one for a donation of $10. For a contribution of $25, donors may also request a glass tree ornament. Lights and ornaments may be purchased at the Hospice office (8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday), or by calling WWCH at 525-5561. Order information is also on the WWCH website at www.wwhospice.org. All funds raised from the Tree of Life are used toward providing quality hospice care in Walla Walla, Columbia and Northeast Umatilla Counties.
FEES WAIVED FOR HOLIDAY WEEKEND
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) are waiving fees at most dayuse recreation sites in Oregon over Veterans Day weekend in honor of U.S. veterans and members of the U.S. armed forces. The fee waiver is a small, but special way to express our gratitude and appreciation for U.S. veterans, members of the U.S. armed forces and their families. It also supports the goals of President Obama's America's Great Outdoors and First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move Outside" initiatives. The waiver of entrance and/or standard amenity fees applies to public recreation lands under the management of the BLM and U.S. Forest Service, along with the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Reclamation. UPCOMING COUNTY FURLOUGH DAY
WALLA WALLA -- As a reminder, Monday, Nov. 14 is the next scheduled furlough day, which will affect many county offices, as follows: Assessor, Auditor (to include elections, recording, and accounting, as well as vehicle licensing); Commissioners; Facilities Maintenance; Human Services, Personnel/Risk Management; Public Health, Public Records Officer; Treasurer; and WSU Extension. Other offices and departments as follow will maintain current regular hours to the public, pursuant to the State Constitution, Memorandums of Agreement, or as emergency responders: Superior Court; District Court; County Clerk; Coroner; Prosecuting Attorney's office; Sheriff's office; Jail; Juvenile Justice Center/Court Services; Emergency Management; Emergency Medical Services; and Public Works Department. Drop boxes will be available for some offices/departments (Auditor's office, located by that office; Treasurer's office, drop box in alley behind courthouse; Extension office, drop box in door). On a related note, all county offices and departments will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, in observance of the Veterans Day holiday.
HOLIDAY GRIEF WORKSHOP
WALLA WALLA -- Walla Walla Community Hospice announces a new grief series that will focus on grief and the holidays. The two-part workshop will take place Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, at 6:30 p.m.The sessions will focus on the special issues that arise during the holiday season for those who are dealing with the loss of a loved one.Hospice grief support groups are offered to anyone living in Walla Walla, Columbia or northeast Umatilla Counties, not just the family members of hospice patients. There is no charge.
