Burg Brings Home Xmas

WAITSBURG - This Saturday and Sunday Christmas comes to Waitsburg with Santa, a lighted parade and plenty of shopping and prizes during the town's annual Hometown Christmas event.

"Come to the Town Hall for vendors and gifts," said Ruth Peterson, an organizer of the event.

Held every first weekend in December, this annual tradition centered in Town Hall is sure to be a delight. This is the festival's 26th year in Waitsburg, Peterson said.

The fun starts on Saturday with Turkey Bingo. Turkeys and other prizes will be given away. The game begins at 4 p.m. and is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.

At noon on Saturday, get ready for Christmas shopping as local craft vendors will set up in Town Hall. Every $5 spent gets you a ticket in a raffle drawing for prizes. The drawing will be held on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

The vendors will offer a variety of handmade goods including baked goods, jewelry and crafts. Students from the Waitsburg School District will sing Christmas songs throughout the afternoon on Saturday.

The Waitsburg Rainbow girls, made up of 14 girls, ages 11 through 18, will be serving free coffee and cookies as well.

On Sunday, the vendors will once again be open and Santa Claus will make an appearance at 1:30 p.m. Kids are welcome to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. Parents can bring a camera and take photos if they like.

Ticket holders must be present at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday to win a prize through the raffle, Peterson said. At 5 p.m. Sunday, bundle up the kids and bring them to Main Street for the lighted parade. It starts at the north end of Main Street and anyone, with or without wheels, is invited to light up and participate. Trucks and farm equipment are especially encouraged to join in the parade.

Following the parade, head back to Town Hall to warm up at the chili feed. The Commercial Club is sponsoring the feed.
