WAITSBURG - A community staple that has played host to the daily "coffee club" for years is up for sale.
The White Stallion Restaurant on Preston Avenue was put on the market by the Blanc Family on Nov. 24, said Tarah McCaw with Williams Team Homes.
The restaurant is listed for $139,000 and includes a little more than an acre of land, the building and all of the furnishings.
McCaw said there have not yet been any offers on the property, but the real estate office has receive a handful of phone calls from interested parties.
The Times was unable to get comment from any member of the Blanc family.
Melissia Sharpe, who has worked at the White Stallion for about two and a half years, said she believes the restaurant is up for sale because it was the matriarch of the family, Gaye Blanc's, dream, and the younger members of the family are interested in other pursuits.
"I almost cried when I saw the sign," she said. "But I know it will be less stress for (the family)."
The restaurant is remaining open for business as of this time, Sharpe said, but its liquor license expired last week, putting a damper on nighttime business and pool league.
Sharpe said she and the other employees are simply waiting for Chris Blanc, who has worked closely with the restaurant, to come in and let them know the last day the restaurant will be open, if the family does decide to cease operations.
"We're in limbo," she said.
The coffee club will likely have to find a new venue to meet at, she said, "if anybody else can tolerate them," Sharpe said with a laugh.
Sharpe herself has said she has received lots of inquiries about the building and many people tell her they hope someone else will want to run it soon to keep the doors open.
"Everybody says, 'I hope it doesn't close,'" she said.
If it does, Sharpe said she plans to find another part-time job and go back to school to study business or accounting.
