MONEY FOR WATER RIGHTS HOLDERS
WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla Watershed Management Partnership has been awarded the status of Qualified Local Entity (QLE) under the Columbia Basin Water Transactions Program (Transactions Program), enabling the partnership to conduct innovative water transactions in the Touchet River system and throughout the Walla Walla basin for instream flow enhancement. The Transactions Program is managed by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. With its focus on water rights management for the Walla Walla River and its tributaries (including the Touchet River, Mill Creek and others), the partnership's authority under RCW 90.92 empowers the Partnership to acquire water rights and execute agreements with water right holders. The Partnership is reaching out to landowners and water right holders in Walla Walla and Columbia counties to assist them in evaluating options for participation in water right transactions. Chris Hyland, the Partnership's Program Director for Water Management Programs, is working with water right holders on water transactions, including those eligible for financial compensation under the Transactions Program. Contact Chris Hyland at 509.524.5217 or chris. hyland@wwcc.edu.
