Have you ever heard Philanthropy? Philanthropy is when you help people, animals, and the environment. You give up your time for something. I would like to help the community by making a community garden. People could volunteer to care for it. We can donate the food. We need to get land. This is how I want to help the community. We can donate the food to the Waitsburg Resource Center. People that work in the garden can get food too! People can volunteer their time working in the garden. People that come to helpcan get some of the food. People that volunteer can give some water, seeds, and rake it. We can have a lot of people to work at more than one of these tasks. We will need to get land for our community garden. We could also use an empty lot. Another idea is to use part of the race track that isn't being used right now. By Kelsey Alleman

I would like to help homeless people in Iraq. It's not right to think that they deserve that. I want to help them and earn money for them. I want to help them because it's sad to see someone hungry and hopeless. I want to help them very much. If you thought of people in Iraq you'd want to help them too. It isn't fair for people not to have homes. Imagine having to go to the dump and try to find food. It is terrible to not have anyone to rely on. I would love to help them at their hour of need. To help people in Iraq would be a very good thing. It would be nice to give people homes in Iraq. I want everybody to have a home. A charity for them would be amazing. The best solution is to help them. I want to help them because it is a very unselfish thing to do. It shows that you have a lot of altruism; that you would do anything to help them. You can do anything to help if you try. I wish everybody could help Iraq. By Riley Witt

I am going to help endangered species. My first animal is the lion. Lions are endangered because people think they are mean, but they're just misunderstood. That's why I want to help the lions. The one thing the lions will need is lots of space to move around and to hunt. I will fence 300 acres of land and put no hunting signs all around the fence. They will also need lots of water to drink. I will dig a well and take care of all their medical needs. Next is the sea otter. I would put up "no boating" signs. Then I would put poled speakers to scare bald eagles away from the area. Finally, I would put out food for them. I will help sea otters. Last is the tiger. I will feed them meat. I will help them by putting up "no hunting" signs. I would put up "no driving" signs also. I would do that on 300 acres of land so they would have a safe place to live. By Angellica Brooks

I would like to help homeless people find hope. I would find ways to raise money for food, shelter, and clothing for them. I would donate my time to volunteer at shelters. By helping the homeless I feel we could solve a lot of problems. It would not only help people in need of food, shelter, and clothes, but would make me feel good too. There are many ways to raise money for homeless people. One way is to have a community bake sale. I would ask friends to donate baked goods and then sell them at football games and soccer games. Another way to help raise money is to start a dog walking business for donation. I could get my friends and we could provide this service and the money raised would go toward the needs of the homeless in our area. Finally, a yard sale would be a great way for people to clear out the things they don't use and raise money to donate to the homeless. These are just a few idea and there are many more. I would dedicate my time to helping out at a local homeless shelter. I could organize activities for them like something fun to do because they probably don't have anything to do. I could also make and serve food to them. I could teach a class on reading and math to help them out also. I think a free clothing store with nice suits would be nice for them to have in case they go for a job interview someday. Helping the homeless helps everyone. Homeless people would not have to beg as much on the street for money. All people would save money. Homeless people would feel good not being on the cold streets. Helping homeless people is my goal. By raising money and donating my time, we could solve lots of problems and give everyone some hope. By Kaleb Bryant

J.R.isa4montholdpuppy. His life has taken many turns since birth. J.R., which by the way, doesn't stand for John Rich; it stands for Just Right. Anyway, J.R. suffers from being partly paralyzed. Philanthropy (fil-an-through-pee) is what my friend, Brayden, and I will be doing. A philanthropist is: one who makes an effort to promote human welfare. These are just three of the many reasons I want to help J.R. have the best life possible despite his disability. J.R.'s life has been a rollercoaster. When J.R. was just an itty bitty little pup his mom put him on the other side of the yard to die. That's when his owner, who usually works at Mill Creek Veterinarian Offi ce and now is going into the Marines, decided she wanted to make J. R. her puppy. J.R. is currently living at the Waitsburg Hardware Store. Now that you see J.R.'s life hasn't been what a puppy usually has, you see why I want to help. Like I said before, he suffers from being partially paralyzed. The paralyzed part is from his hip down. He will only walk when he gets really thirsty, hungry, or when he is at the lot by the Hardware Store playing with his sister. J.R. was born like this and the vets believe he will be like this for his whole life, but he is going to need special care and supplies. Now you know about J.R.'s disability. Philanthropy is when someone makes an effort to promote human welfare. I've been at the Hardware Store and have seen J.R. He is a really lovable puppy. Really it is easy. Even regularly mowing somebody's lawn who can't is philanthropic. You feel great inside and know you're making a difference. Be a Philanthropist! Make a difference! By Devon Harshman

Multiple Myeloma is a very serious disease. It is a cancer and is deadly. Sadly, the survival rates are very low, only 5ive. We don't know much about Multiple Myeloma and need people to donate money. If I could help, I would raise money by recycling paper. There is no cure to Multiple Myeloma and we need to find one. The disease Multiple Myeloma is very dangerous and scary. It is a cancer that usually men of color get. This disease interferes with plasma cells (blood cells) and makes too many of those cells so they grow tumors. Multiple Myeloma is a deadly and sad disease. If you have Multiple Myeloma, you have a very low chance of survival. It is very rare to live. Only 5f people live and 95ie. 10ive ten years or more after getting out of the hospital and 25ie in only one year. If you have a treatment you will live longer, without treatment you will die within six months. We all need to help to find a cure to this disease. We know hardly anything about Multiple Myeloma and desperately need research. I could help by recycling paper and have paper bins all over town. All the money I make will go to the Mayo Clinic or to a research lab. If we all help we can find a cure to the miserable and deadly disease; Multiple Myeloma. By Leena Baker

Little towns like ours needs help getting new football equipment. We could get tackle dummies, balls and tees. I want to raise money for football equipment because I play football and I don't have as good of equipment as other cities or bigger towns. We need to get new gear. We need shoulder pads that don't fall apart, good helmets and pants that don't have holes. We also need some good pads. We need to get new play suggestions for players to improve and stop watches or score boards. In conclusion to get these things for our team, I would have a car wash, rake leaves, and mow lawns. By getting these things kids in my town will have better opportunities. It might lead them and me to a football scholarship to go to college. This is how I want to help. By Eli Williams

If you could do something to promote education what would you do? I would, I think everyone, everywhere, should get the chance to learn. Everyone should be able to hold a pencil, and know what it feels like to see what you can write on a piece of paper. In a nut shell, this is my perspective of a good education. I'm not a teacher, but I still think that everyone should learn. Learning is super important. It will provide a job for you. It will also just give you a chance to be remembered. You need supplies to get an education though. You might need things like: pencil, and paper. You would need some books too. Everyone likes to color so you would probably need some crayons or something. Here's how I would help financially support funding education. I would do fundraisers. I would send money monthly, and support educational charities. I found a website called Helping the Afghan Children. You can volunteer your time and become an ambassador. If you want to look it up you can. The website is www.htac.org. What would you do to help promote education? By Jake Bradshaw

If I did something philanthropic I would give food to the homeless. First I would collect money. Then, when I have enough, I would buy imperishable or packaged food. Last, I would find homeless people and give it to them. That is what I would do. This is how I would collect money. I would put up lemonade stands. I would also do garage sales. I could sell old clothes. That is how I would collect money. The next step is to get packaged food. I would use the money to get lots of food like Twinkies. I would collect a lot of food. Then I would make plans to give it away. That's how I would get food. The last step is to feed the homeless. First, I would find people that are really homeless. I would tell them what I am doing. Last I would give the good to the people. Helping the homeless would keep them from being hungry and that would be a good thing to do. By Scott Leamy
