Silas McClurg, a second grade student, is the Starbuck School District Elementary Student of the Month for November 2011.
Silas is in his first year at Starbuck, and he is a superstar! He is excelling in all of his work in class and loving to learn. His Abraham Lincoln report was very well written, his reading skills are improving (he just finished a "Magic Treehouse" book) and he learned all about balancing and weighing objects in science. At recess and lunch times Silas is always helpful and polite. He plays with other students very well, and he helps pick up the playground after the whistle blows. He is never rude or argumentative with the teachers and staff - he is a wonderful student to have around.
Mia Owen-Fischer is Student of the Month for Mrs. Wooldridge's class. She is a fifth grader and new to our school this year.
It has been great having her here because she is a hard worker, and very helpful to others. Mia has done a great job in the classroom. She always works hard at completing her assignments. She pays attention to detail and it really shows especially in her report on Canada. Mia is also a good writer and enjoys writing short stories as well research papers. In our recent unit on salmon and habitat, Mia's fish, Mudball, made the long trek to the ocean and back. She enjoyed the trip to the hatchery and the river walk to get a real life look at habitat.
