Dear Editor,

I would like to thank the citizens of Dayton for their past support of our school levies. It is no accident that our town is a great place to live. We are blessed to have many residents who have worked diligently over the years to create a place that people want to visit and live. The appeal of our community is the sum of many features. We are fortunate to have a welcoming downtown, a lovely park and swimming pool, library, hospital with emergency services, ski resort, and so much more. These are the things that attract families and businesses that are critical to survival of a community. A change in any part can dramatically affect the whole.

A cornerstone of a healthy community is its school system. We are seeing dwindling amounts of state funds for our school district that ultimately make our local levies more important all the time. Again, I am very grateful for the support of our community with our levies. Our school board spent a considerable amount of time to determine the proposal of our current replacement Maintenance and Operations levy and Capital Projects levy. We are very aware of the current economical conditions and the effects of that on our citizens. We are pleased that we are able to offer one of the lowest rates per thousand in our region. We will continue to work hard to have an excellent school system. The loss of our levy dollars would have a very detrimental effect on the education that we want to provide for our students. It concerns me what our school would look like in the event of a levy failure.
